The Ministers of Economy of Tajikistan and Azerbaijan on July 7 met to discuss the ongoing bilateral cooperation between their respective countries, media reports.
Reportedly, both ministers expressed their approval of the wise and far-sighted policies implemented by their respective leaders, Emomali Rahmon and Ilham Aliyev, resulting in reliable partnerships.
The parties agreed to implement specific projects that aim to strengthen trade and economic cooperation, including creating joint industrial enterprises and transporting crude oil from Azerbaijan to Tajikistan for the oil refinery.
Additionally, the two sides agreed to attract capital for the reconstruction of JSC "Tajik Aluminum Company" and to promote the export of aluminum, cryolite, and aluminum fluoride from Tajikistan to Azerbaijan.
Other agreements included the import of alumina from Azerbaijan to Tajikistan, the processing of agricultural products, granting of discounts for transportation by rail, the development of tourism, the exploration of Tajik deposits, and increasing bilateral trade turnover.
Finally, the parties expressed their commitment to further expanding their trade and economic relationship.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Georgia and Azerbaijan have increased mutual trade turnover by 7.3% since the start of 2023, with $612mn traded between January and May. Georgian imports have risen by over $100mn, while exports from Azerbaijan to Georgia have decreased.
Besides, Azerbaijan had set a target to raise its bilateral trade with Uzbekistan to $1bn. The country aims to enhance its bilateral trade with Kazakhstan to the same amount.
