Construction of another modern stable for 600 Akhalteke horses has been completed in the picturesque foothills of the Kopetdag Mountains, reports local TV station Altyn Asyr.
The Akhalteke breed is considered the elite of world horse breeding, and measures are being taken in their homeland to breed, select and prepare them for racing. The new facility covers 15.4 hectares and includes a veterinary clinic with all the necessary equipment.
"The mountain climate, the peculiarities of the environment, including streams of crystal-clear water, create excellent conditions for breeding Akhalteke horses," the report says.
Ashgabat has established the headquarters of the International Association of Akhal-Teke Horses and has applied to UNESCO to inscribe them on the World Heritage List. Turkmenistan celebrates the annual Festival of the Horse and recently opened the International Academy of Horse Breeding.
The Livestock Conservancy (USA) said in a report that the Akhal-Teke breed is on the verge of extinction, with an estimated population of less than 7,000.
