In January-September 2023, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan totalled $830.3mn, up 1.9% year-on-year, according to the Uzbek Presidential Statistics Agency.
Uzbekistan imported $700.9mn worth of goods from Turkmenistan and exported $129.4mn worth of products to that country.
Turkmenistan ranked sixth among Uzbekistan's trading partners in the reporting period, up three points from the previous month. China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, South Korea topped the list.
Last year, two-way trade between the neighbouring countries amounted to $926.3mn, five times more than in 2017.
Uzbekistan has switched to direct energy purchases from Turkmenistan in recent years. The two countries recently agreed to establish a border trade zone that will cover the adjacent territory of Turkmenistan's Dashoguz area and Uzbekistan's Khorezm region.
