The World Health Organisation (WHO) sent an expert mission to Turkmenistan to assist in the establishment of the Emergency Medical Teams (EMT).
During the mission, the expert team met with the high-level officials of the Turkmenistan's Ministry of Health and Medical Industry to review the goals and objectives, methodology, and classification of EMT as well as to discuss the appointment of the National Focal Point.
Discussions covered multiple topics, including planning and process development, administrative considerations, staffing and rostering considerations as well as conducting trainings.
The mission included a special meeting to develop a comprehensive roadmap in this area. "The successful completion of this technical advisory mission marks a significant milestone in enhancing Turkmenistan's national capacity in emergency response."
Experts told Daryo that Turkmenistan is in a high-risk zone for natural disasters, including earthquakes and mudslides.
Severe dust storms have become more frequent in some regions in recent years. In 2020, the country was blanketed by salt dust containing nitrogen fertiliser that had accumulated for decades at the bottom of the Aral Sea.
Earlier this year, Uzbekistan presented Turkmenistan with 20 Volkswagen Caddy ambulances, manufactured by Jizzax Auto in Jizzak, to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
