China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) reports that construction of a fourth gas pipeline from Turkmenistan through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is "in full swing".
The information said that natural gas supplies from Central Asia are expected to pick up. Line D, with a capacity of 30bn cubic metres per year, will form a network with the existing 55bn-capacity lines A, B and C, which run through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
Since its opening in 2009 till the end of last year, it had delivered 423bn cubic meters of natural gas to China, of which more than 350bn cubic metres from Turkmenistan. This provides gas to more than 500mn residents in 27 provincial-level regions and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Experts told Daryo that CNPC's new project could increase annual gas supplies from Turkmenistan from the current 40bn cubic metres to 65bn.
