Mohd Suhaimi Ahmad Tajuddin has been appointed Ambassador of Malaysia to Turkmenistan. King Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at the Istana Negara Palace also handed over the appointment papers of 14 other ambassadors sent on overseas missions.
The country's diplomatic mission in Ashgabat reports that Mohd Suhaimi is a career diplomat who has served in the US and Singapore. He has been serving as Deputy Director General, ASEAN-Malaysia National Secretariat since July 2020.
ASEAN (Association of SouthEast Asian Nations) is an international alliance comprising Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.
Experts told Daryo that Turkmenistan's largest investor is Malaysia's Petronas Charigali, which has invested $11bn as of 2021. The company has been working on Turkmenistan's Caspian shelf since 1996. An extension of the Production Sharing Agreement until 2038 is currently under negotiation.
Turkmenistan and Malaysia exchanged embassies in 2013.
