The First Deputy Minister of Transport, Mamanbiy Omarov, engaged in discussions with representatives from the Asian Development Bank regarding the financing of the "Electromobility Program" supported by the Green Climate Fund, the Ministry of Transport's press service reports.
The proposed funding amount for this program, intended for implementation in seven countries, including Uzbekistan, stands at $170mn. Out of this total, $65mn constitutes a grant, with the remaining $105mn as debt.
The primary objective of this program is to eliminate obstacles hindering the widespread adoption of commercial electric vehicles. It encompasses four key areas, including the deployment of an electric bus fleet and related infrastructure, the enhancement of the public transportation system's sustainability and efficiency, and policies backed by the government aimed at fostering electric vehicle development.
In late September, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) upgraded its economic growth predictions for Uzbekistan in 2023 and 2024. Prior to this, it was known that the ADB had earmarked $200mn in debt for the digitalization of Uzbekistan's energy distribution system.
