The Tashkent city administration has entered into a framework agreement with the Chinese car manufacturer BYD to acquire 2,000 electric buses. These electric buses, designed by the K9UD eBus company, are tailored to Tashkent's climate and road conditions.
The K9UD eBus model, measuring 12 meters in length, has a capacity of up to 90 passengers. Its low floor design enhances accessibility for elderly and young passengers, while the spacious cabin ensures a comfortable ride. The initial delivery of 200 electric buses is expected in 2024.
Mr. Chunlong Tian said, "We are delighted to bring the zero-emission BYD pure electric buses to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. We hope to work with the Tashkent government to provide safe, reliable, comfortable and clean public transport for local citizens, and at the same time showcase BYD's advanced products and technologies to the general public of Uzbekistan."
Acting Mayor of Tashkent, Shavkat Umurzakov, underlined that the procurement agreement for BYD electric buses aligns with Uzbekistan's strategy of transitioning to a "green" economy. Electrifying the transportation system is expected to enhance the citizens' quality of life.
In late September, Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted a delegation led by Wang Chuanfu, the President and Founder of China's prominent company BYD. During this meeting, they discussed practical aspects of expanding BYD's operations in Uzbekistan. This included the launch of hybrid and electric vehicle production in the Jizzakh region as quickly as possible and scaling up production capacity to 300,000 units in subsequent stages.
