The government of Uzbekistan has announced plans to manufacture Volkswagen cars, including hybrids and electric cars, at the Jizzakh Auto plant, as indicated in a government resolution project published by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The plant's conveyor is expected to be operational by the end of 2023. However, specific details regarding the exact models to be produced have not been disclosed. It remains uncertain whether the Volkswagen Caddy, previously assembled through a large-knocked-down method, will resume production at the Jizzakh plant due to Volkswagen's exit from Russia, which had been the source of parts and components.
Additionally, the Jizzakh Free Economic Zone will also witness the assembly of Chinese electric cars from BYD, with production set to commence in April 2024.
At present, the Jizzakh car plant produces models from Kia, Renault, Chery, and Lada, which became part of the lineup in September.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Uzbekistan spent $120 mn on import of electric cars from 10 foreign countries, including China, Hong Kong, Germany, South Korea, UAE, USA, Turkey, Lithuania, Spain, and Russia.
