A delegation from Turkmenistan is participating in a meeting with the leaders of Central Asian countries and the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations, the state agency Turkmen Khabarlary reports.
Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, stated during his visit to Berlin that the European direction continues to be a priority in Turkmenistan's international energy relations.
"...I would like to reinforce Turkmenistan's staunch stance regarding the provision of gas supplies to Europe by means of building the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline. We are ready to resume our active contacts with the relevant structures of the European Commission, individual European states and companies in the context of the execution of significant global energy projects."
Experts have suggested that the Trans-Caspian project may be discussed during Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's upcoming visit to the EU headquarters in Brussels, Belgium and Ankara, Turkey, as previously scheduled by the end of this year.
The 300-km pipeline project, delivering 30bn cubic metres of gas, has become a high-priority initiative following the EU's decision to reduce its dependence on Gazprom in light of Russia's military action towards Ukraine since February 2022.
Turkmenistan's Galkynysh, the world's second largest gas field, from where a 700-km pipeline to the Caspian Sea coast starts, could be a source of future supplies to Europe by sea, via the Caucasus and Turkey.
