President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Tatsuya Watanabe, Senior Advisor for Strategic Affairs of Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd, local television channel Altyn Asyr reports.
During the meeting, the prospects of cooperation in the field of modernisation and intensification of the national economy were discussed.
"We are ready to consider your proposals on the implementation of new projects in the development of Turkmenistan's chemical, oil and gas industries, in particular to increase the production of phosphorus, ammonia, urea and petrol from natural gas," the head of state said.
The businessman, in turn, stressed that Japanese business circles are very interested in the promising Turkmen market and are ready to provide the latest technological developments.
Experts told Daryo that Turkmenistan, which is rich in natural gas, has in recent years been actively engaged in economic diversification aimed at shifting to the production of high value-added goods.
Japan's Kawasaki and Sojitz, with the participation of Turkey's Rönesans, built a $1.7bn plant in Turkmenistan in 2019 to become the world's first commercial producer of synthetic gasoline from natural gas.
There are plans to build a second similar plant on this basis. The Turkmenhimiya State Concern, Kawasaki, Itochu (Japan) and Rönesans recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to this effect.
