One of the primary areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Singapore involves the advancement of marketing at the international port located in the Caspian Sea.
The Turkmen Sea and River Routes State Agency reports that a delegation from the Port of Singapore delivered a presentation with the objective of enhancing the Turkmenbashi seaport's potential and competitiveness. As part of the mutually agreed project, Singapore will provide training opportunities for local specialists alongside internships.
The newly operational (2018) seaport in Turkmenbashi has enhanced access to European countries and markets in the Near and Middle East. The $1.5bn venture was executed by Gap Inşaat from Turkey.
The port has a total capacity of 17mn tonnes of various cargoes annually, excluding oil products. Its area covers more than 150 hectares, divided into four terminals: general cargo, containers, bulk cargo, and car ferries.
Experts told Daryo that to maintain the ecological balance of the Caspian Sea, bio-treatment facilities have been implemented at every terminal. Additionally, they utilise electrical loading and unloading equipment which meets Euro-5 standards.
Turkmenistan, with its access to the Caspian Sea, aims to optimise the potential of international transport and transit corridors in the region.
