The Merchant Marine of Turkmenistan reports that the total volume of cargo traffic through the port of Turkmenbashi in January-August 2023 was 1.5mn tons, which is 28.6% more than last year.
The increase in growth rates is mainly due to an increase in export shipments of crude oil and oil products, as well as bulk cargoes. In addition, the volume of container traffic increased 2.6 times during the reporting period.
A new port was opened in Turkmenbashi in May 2018. Its throughput capacity is 17-18mn tons per year. Together with the previously operating port, this figure is close to 25mn tons.
The container terminal with an average annual capacity of 400 thousand TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) can handle three ships simultaneously with a total cargo capacity of 5 thousand tons.
