Turkmenistan has begun supplying liquefied natural gas to Pakistan by road. 50 tankers have been delivered, the Associated Press of Pakistan reports.
Turkmen Ambassador Atajan Movlamov made the announcement during a meeting with President of Pakistan's Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) Khurram Tariq. Official appreciated the bilateral cooperation the energy needs of Pakistan and underlined the need to establish direct links between the business communities of the two countries.
The diplomat, for his part, said the TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) gas pipeline and TAP (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan) power transmission projects would open new avenues of regional cooperation in the long term.
Experts told Daryo that liquefied gas from Turkmenistan is transported through Afghanistan's Kandahar province. Pakistan is facing an acute shortage of the fuel and is seeking to diversify its imports, which come mainly from Iran.
The Turkmen product is also bought by Afghanistan, Georgia, Iran and Iran.
