Hungary and Turkmenistan have mutually agreed to open embassies in each other's countries. This news was tweeted by Zoltán Kovács, State Secretary for International Communication of the Hungarian Prime Minister.
He quotes Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó on the importance of rebuilding cooperation between East and West. The diplomat highlighted the need to restore physical connections between the two regions, as historical experiences showed the detrimental effects of a lack of civilized cooperation between them.
Experts told Daryo that Hungary is interested in buying Turkmen gas. Budapest recently managed to reach a political agreement with Ashgabat. "Now it is the companies' turn to continue the commercial negotiations", Szijjártó said after the high-level meetings.
The Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan could become part of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) infrastructure. Azerbaijan, which is connected to Turkey by pipelines, currently supplies natural gas to Europe through this network.
