A.P. Moller – Maersk, commonly known as Maersk, has unveiled an innovative transport solution designed to connect key manufacturing regions in the US, Far East, Mediterranean, and Europe with Central Asian markets. This end-to-end multi-modal shipping and rail transport offering is set to enhance cargo transportation efficiency, particularly for consumer, lifestyle, and tech products destined for the rapidly growing consumer markets in Central Asia.
Targeting Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan
While this tailored solution primarily focuses on serving the markets of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, Maersk envisions it as the foundation for future logistics services in neighboring countries, including Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. The Georgian Port Poti plays a pivotal role as the primary connecting point to Maersk's global maritime network. Cargo from various origins is transported by rail to Baku, Azerbaijan, marking the initial leg of the journey.
Efficient Route through Caspian Sea
From Baku, the cargo embarks on a sea journey across the Caspian Sea to Aktau. Subsequently, an efficient train network takes over, ensuring the smooth delivery of cargo to its ultimate destinations in Central Asia, such as Almaty, Astana, and Tashkent. Maersk has strategically established last-mile links in Georgia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, forming a specialized transportation pool to provide seamless and dependable logistics services.
Sedef Ayhan, Managing Director East Mediterranean Area of Maersk, on the New Offering
Sedef Ayhan, the Managing Director of the East Mediterranean Area at Maersk, expressed enthusiasm about this innovative solution and its potential impact:
"Besides our existing rail connection through China, there has been a rising demand among our customers in the Western hemisphere for a logistics solution in this corridor which is seamlessly connected to a global network at the European end. We are happy to serve this demand with our new dedicated offering now and help our customers to reliably import and export their products to and from the Central Asian markets."
In addition to this transport solution, Maersk has recently partnered with Fabric to provide innovative fulfillment solutions for e-commerce, demonstrating the company's commitment to continuously enhance its services and adapt to the evolving needs of its customers.
