Child Rights Ombudsperson Aliya Yunusova has recently announced her decision to resign from her post. She shared the news on her social media page, stating that she will no longer serve as the Commissioner for Children's Rights due to particular circumstances. However, the specific details surrounding her departure remain unknown at this time.
Aliya Yunusova also expressed her gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, for his attention to issues related to ensuring the children's rights and interests, promoting the younger generation's harmonious development, and protecting motherhood and childhood.
She also thanked Munir Mammadzade, UNICEF Representative to the Republic of Uzbekistan, and his team for their support and promotion of initiatives for children, as well as all those who cooperated, supported, promoted, believed, and worked towards establishing a strong system for the promotion and protection of children's rights in accordance with international standards.
Aliya Yunusova has an impressive career trajectory, beginning with her work as a teacher at the Tashkent State Medical Institute in 1983. She then went on to become a postgraduate student at the Institute of Philosophy and Law named after I. Muminov of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, where she also served as a scientific employee from 1989 to 1999. During this time, she also worked as a specialist of the Committee on Religious Affairs under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, where she eventually became chief specialist from 1991 to 1993.
From 1999 to 2005, Aliya Yunusova served as the Head of the Department of the National Centre for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a position she held for six years. She then went on to become a three-time elected deputy of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, where she served from 2005 to 2020. In February 2020, Aliya Yunusova was appointed as the Deputy Ombudsman - Commissioner for Children’s Rights.
