Tajikistan is working on a new system to evaluate the performance of secondary school students, media reports.
President Emomali Rahmon has given instructions to create a corresponding draft for this multi-stage system. Students in grades 5-11 will also be transferred to differential education as part of this system.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Tajikistan, along with the Agency for Supervision in the Sphere of Education and Science and the Academy of Education, will prepare and present a draft resolution titled "On the National Concept of Assessment of Quality of Education" to the Government of Tajikistan.
Currently, Tajikistan uses a five-point system to evaluate knowledge. However, in 2020, the President instructed to study the world's experience and implement a multi-point system in general educational institutions and universities.
The curricula of universities will also be adapted to meet international standards of education.
Across Central Asia, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, the prevailing grading system in education is the five-point system, also referred to as the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) grading system. This system assigns a numerical value to each grade, corresponding to a letter grade.
To elaborate on the five-point system, the grades are awarded as follows:
1. Excellent (5) - This grade is awarded to students who exhibit an exceptional understanding and mastery of the subject matter. It is equivalent to an A grade.
2. Good (4) - This grade is awarded to students who possess a solid grasp of the subject matter and have demonstrated high competence. It is equivalent to a B grade.
3. Satisfactory (3) - This grade is awarded to students who demonstrate satisfactory knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. It is equivalent to a C grade.
4. Unsatisfactory (2) - This grade is awarded to students who have not met the minimum requirements for the course. It is equivalent to a D grade.
5. Fail (1) - This grade is awarded to students who have failed the course by not meeting the requirements. It is equivalent to an F grade.
The five-point system serves as a means of evaluating students' academic performance and determining their eligibility for graduation or advancement to the next level of education.
