Oil production in Tajikistan in the first half of this year amounted to 9,100 tons, which is almost 3,400 tons less than in the same period of 2022, according to the country's Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, media reports.
The Ministry has reported a decrease in oil production from four companies: Petroleum Sogd (by 2,600 tons), Naftu Gas (by 130 tons), Hasan and K (by 80 tons), and Setos (by 65 tons).
The regulator reduced oil production due to low reservoir pressure, a winter power outage, and improper well restoration by Petroleum Sogd.
According to the statistical agency, the country's refineries produced 675 tons of gasoline, 676 tons of diesel fuel, 1,700 tons of fuel oil, and 1,600 tons of bitumen in the first half of 2023.
During this period, the Antimonopoly Department reported that the republic imported around 442,000 tons of petroleum products.
Petroleum products were mainly imported from Russia, which accounts for 85.4% of the total volume, Kazakhstan (5.1%), Turkmenistan (4.4%), Uzbekistan (2.6%), Belarus (1.4%) and other countries (1.1%).
Official preliminary data shows Tajikistan has over one bn tons of oil and 6-7 trillion cubic meters of gas in its reserves, with a higher density than neighboring countries.
Twenty-three hydrocarbon deposits were discovered in Tajikistan during the Soviet Union, and annual oil production reached 400,000 tons.
