On August 18, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan has received an invitation from US President Joe Biden to attend the inaugural Central Asia-USA (C5+1) summit.
The communication, disclosed in a letter by Forbes magazine, outlines a gathering between the Central Asian and US leaders on either September 19 or 20. These dates coincide with the commencement of the UN General Assembly's regular session in New York.
“I look forward to the upcoming [session] of the UN General Assembly, where we will make progress on the most important issues in the lives of our peoples. I hope you will join me and our fellow leaders at the formal C5+1 meeting on September 19 or 20 to discuss how we can all continue to work together to achieve our shared security, economic and environmental goals.” Joe Biden wrote.
Joe Biden highlighted that in the past year, collaboration between the nations has surged to unprecedented levels, encompassing enhanced trade and investment connections, bolstered security cooperation, and joint endeavors to address regional challenges. The US President also expressed robust backing for Uzbekistan's strides in implementing both political and economic reforms, stating,
"We fully endorse your commitment to advancing political and economic reforms."
Furthermore, the letter recalls the honor of hosting Shavkat Mirziyoyev's daughter, Saida Mirziyoeva, at the White House earlier in the year. The commendable activism of Saida and the President's resolute actions to criminalize gender-based and domestic violence were acknowledged.
In May 2018, Shavkat Mirziyoyev undertook an official visit to the US, engaging in discussions with then-President Donald Trump at the White House. During this visit, a joint political statement was endorsed, signifying the inception of a new era of strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States.
Following his election as President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the UN General Assembly in September 2017. During his speech, he outlined Uzbekistan's evolution towards a fresh identity, underscored foreign policy priorities, and advocated for a reassessment of counterterrorism strategies.
