Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) reports it has signed an agreement with Turkmenenergo State Corporation on the implementation of an energy project in Afghanistan's Herat province.
During the talks, the sides discussed issues related to the project to expand the power supply to the Noor-ul-Jehad substation from 110 kilovolts to 220 kilovolts. The main focus was on topics such as design survey, document preparation, safety, insurance and other technical aspects.
The contracting company was given time to compile the required documents, DABS said.
Afghanistan imports more than 80% of its electricity from Central Asia and Iran. Almost half of its needs were until recently was supplied by Uzbekistan, which is now focusing on domestic energy consumption due to an industrial boom.
Experts told Daryo that Turkmenistan supplies 20% of Afghanistan's electricity needs and talks are underway to increase supplies.
