Nearly half of the cars in Kazakhstan are at least 20 years old, according to the data provided by the country's Bureau of National Statistics.
In June, vehicle registrations reached a record high with 181,100 units registered, marking a 1.8 times increase compared to last year. This is the highest indicator seen in the past year.
Thus, as of July 1, the number of registered vehicles in Kazakhstan amounted to 4.9mn units.
According to the bureau, passenger cars registered by year of manufacture primarily comprise those over 20 years old, accounting for 47.3%.
Compared to the previous year, there has been an 8% increase in passenger cars with a year of manufacture over 20 years, rising from 1.9mn to 2mn units.
Earlier, Daryo reported that the government of Tajikistan, under the direction of President Emomali Rahmon, has issued a resolution that bans the importation of vehicles produced before 2012. In particular, the new regulation supersedes the previous one, which prohibited the entry of cars produced before 2005.
Besides, Tajikistan's Ministry of Transport has revealed that approximately 1,600 electric vehicles currently operate on the country's roads. Minister of Transport Azim Ibrokhim has expressed concerns regarding the proper disposal of batteries, which he highlighted during a press conference held in the country's capital Dushanbe.
