Kazakhstan's Ministry of Agriculture has announced the country's first large-scale banana production in a greenhouse complex in the Turkestan region.
The complex was constructed by Türkiye – based company GenGroup Qazaqstan in an area of 5.3 hectares. The banana variety is specially bred and adapted to Kazakhstan's climatic conditions.
In the near future, the greenhouse will expand by another 5 hectares, which will produce about 1,000 tons of bananas per year. The first harvest is planned to be harvested in 6-8 months. In addition to exotic fruit, tomatoes, and strawberries will be grown in greenhouses,
the report reads.
The initial cost of the project is $4mn. While constructing the greenhouses, the Turkish company utilized high-strength structures and implemented climate control and an adaptive nutrition system. These features allow for fully realizing the plant's genetic potential, even in unfavorable weather conditions.
The Turkestan region in the country began banana cultivation in 2020 by a resident named Khalima Seytkerimova.
