Unauthorised use of natural gas by two companies in Navoi, Uzbekistan has resulted in significant financial damage of 1.1 bn soums (over $90,000) to the system. The instances of illegal gas consumption were uncovered during regulatory checks conducted by "Uzenergoinspeksiya" in collaboration with the General Prosecutor's Office in the Navoi region, Minenergy reported on August 11.
One of the violations was identified at an agricultural products manufacturing enterprise affiliated with "Yeko Garden Navoiy", situated in the Kyziltepa district. Officials from the enterprise tampered with gas metering equipment, leading to a reevaluation of 613 mn soums (around $51,000) worth of unaccounted natural gas.
Similar breaches were observed at a car gas filling compressor station associated with "Karmana techno gas oil" LLC. Despite disconnection from the gas network due to outstanding debt for natural gas, the station was found to be illicitly and arbitrarily reconnected by the consumer. Consequently, this violation incurred a cumulative damage of 580 mn soums (over $48,000) to the state's interests.
Appropriate measures were taken against the offending consumers as per legal procedures, and the relevant documentation was forwarded to law enforcement agencies for further action. These instances underscore the importance of robust monitoring and enforcement to safeguard the integrity of the natural gas system and prevent financial losses to the state.
