The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, has signed a decree approving a comprehensive action plan to fight against the shadow economy from 2023 to 2025, media reports.
The Financial Monitoring Agency collaborated with other state bodies to develop the plan with the objective of introducing systemic measures that enhance tax and customs administration, promote healthy competition, ensure fair budget distribution, and safeguard the population from illegal business activities.
The measures include improving efficiency in customs inspections, optimizing customs procedures, and developing additional measures for administrative offenses.
The goal is to reduce the shadow turnover in wholesale and retail trade to 5% by 2025. In 2022, this figure was 6.7%.
There are also plans to reach an indicator of 2.4% in the field of transport and warehousing, compared to 3.2% in 2022.
Besides, the plan aims to reduce informal employment and suppress illegal activities.
The share of small and medium-sized businesses in the country's GDP is planned to increase from 36% in 2022 to 37.5% in 2025.
The comprehensive plan is part of implementing the President's election program in Kazakhstan.
