Uzbekistan has received its eleventh shipment of anti-hepatitis C drugs from Egypt, Dunyo reports.
Following negotiations with the Egyptian Ministry of Health, the "Daclatasvir" drugs were allocated to Uzbekistan as humanitarian aid. The medicines were delivered to Tashkent by Uzbekistan Airways from Sharm el-Sheikh and will be distributed among patients after treatment by the Virology Research Institute under the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.
This comes as a result of agreements made during the president's official visit to Egypt on February 20-21 and the implementation of the pre-election initiative to provide free treatment for Hepatitis C patients at the state's expense.
Egypt has achieved significant success in combating hepatitis B and C viruses on a global scale. According to the Egyptian Ministry of Health, the entire population of the country has recovered from this disease. The Minister of Health of Egypt, Khalid Abdughaffar, made this announcement during the 76th session of the World Health Organization in Geneva held from May 21 to May 30 of this year.
It is anticipated that the World Health Organization will grant Egypt a certificate of complete elimination of the hepatitis C virus, making Egypt the first country in the world to overcome this disease after years of struggle.
The previous, tenth, batch arrived in Uzbekistan on July 15.
