On July 20, the Kyrgyz Republic's Ambassador to Ukraine, Idris Kadyrkulov, convened with the MFA of Ukraine. The purpose of the talks was to seek an explanation regarding information suggesting the use of Kyrgyz jurisdiction to evade sanctions against Russia, AKI press reports.
Specifically, the concern was related to the supply of dual-purpose products and high-tech components to Russia, which could potentially be utilized in the production of weapons.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine conveyed to the Kyrgyz diplomat that as a member of the global community, Kyrgyzstan should uphold its responsibility in adhering to the policy of international sanctions against Russia. The re-export of goods from Kyrgyzstan to Russia that may have military applications is viewed by Ukraine as a reckless action.
On the same day, July 20, the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) took measures to impose sanctions on four companies in Kyrgyzstan. These actions were in line with commitments made by the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries on February 24, 2023, and May 19, 2023, aimed at addressing Russia's alleged use of Kyrgyz organizations to acquire bilateral technology.
