On July 20, AKIpress reported that during a meeting of the Kyrgyzstan Cabinet of Ministers, the Deputy Prime Minister and the head of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS), Chairman of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchybek Tashiev, reported that Kyrgyzstan has allocated $1.42 bn for the modernization of its military equipment over the past 2.5 years.
Comparing it to previous periods, Tashiev noted that from 2005 to 2020, only $34,140 - $56,900 were allocated for weapons updates. However, recent years have seen increased funding for arsenal upgrades. In 2021, $364.16 mn were allocated, in 2022 - $603,140, and in the first half of 2023, more than $455,200 were already spent. The total amount allocated over the 2.5 years reached over $1.42 bn, as emphasised by Tashiev.
Tashiev says that all acquired military equipment, including drones such as "Bayraktar," Aksungur, and "Akıncı," as well as the "Pechora" anti-aircraft missile system, and Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters, were purchased solely from the state budget and were not provided as grants or loans. He concluded that this substantial approach to army modernization demonstrates the country's serious efforts to strengthen its military capabilities.
