The press office of the Ministry of Energy announced that the Intersectoral Energy Efficiency Fund has secured a grant from the UN Development Programme, Spot.uz has reported.
On July 10, Elzod Rahmanov, the executive director of the fund, and Matilda Dimovska, the head of the UNDP office in Uzbekistan, signed the corresponding agreement. The grant of $833,000 will be allocated to assist the public in acquiring renewable energy generation systems and energy-efficient technologies.
As part of this initiative, the fund plans to compensate up to 30% of the amount of "green" consumer loans provided by partner banks for the acquisition of solar panels and wind generators. Women and girls will be eligible for compensation of up to 37.5%.
In June 2022, Prezident of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to simplify the subsidization of the purchase and installation of renewable energy devices for citizens.
At the president's initiative, a new procedure for stimulating domestic "green" energy was approved in September. Under this framework, citizens can expect compensation for a portion of the device's cost immediately after purchase, provided that the full cost is paid.
The amount of the payments depends on the device's capacity. The maximum amount for citizens is 20 basic price rate ($569), and for farmers, it is 50 basic price rate ($1,422).
Earlier, World Bank promised allocate over $46 mn to Uzbekistan for improving energy efficiency and the sale of carbon quotas.
