The Ukrainian Embassy in Uzbekistan has issued a response to Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Bakhodir Akhmedov's statement concerning the upcoming concerts of Russian singers scheduled to take place in Tashkent.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Bakhodir Akhmedov expressed the view that while limitations can be imposed on many things, art is a realm that transcends borders. He further stated that there are no obstacles or restrictions on artistic expression in Uzbekistan.
“The Embassy draws attention to the fact that performances in Uzbekistan by Russian artists supporting the war may create a false appearance of support for their criminal activities aimed at inciting war, which poses a threat to the image of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In addition, the funds received by Russian perpetrators can be used by them to finance war, terrorism and genocide of the Ukrainian people," the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan stressed on July 4.
The embassy informed that they had officially addressed the relevant Uzbek authorities regarding this matter. Furthermore, the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan expressed appreciation towards the Uzbek public for their opposition to hosting concerts by Russian artists who support ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
