Apple has faced challenges in the production of its Vision Pro augmented reality headsets, leading to a significant reduction in their production forecasts, informs Financial Times. The complex design of the device, particularly the screens with very high resolution, has posed difficulties in manufacturing. As a result, Apple has revised its original plans to produce up to 1mn devices in the first 12 months, now aiming to release less than 400,000 helmets in 2024.
Despite these setbacks, Apple remains committed to launching the Apple Vision Pro Headset in 2024, priced at $3,499 in the US. However, the delay and reduction in production targets might impact the company's initial market penetration.
In the competitive VR and AR market, Meta (formerly Facebook) has also presented its own virtual reality headset, the Quest 3, at a more affordable price of $499. This poses additional challenges for Apple, especially as Meta claims its device will be the first to offer high-definition colour mixed reality.
The mixed reality and virtual reality market is evolving rapidly, with tech giants like Apple and Meta vying for dominance. The complexity of developing cutting-edge devices poses manufacturing challenges, and the competition is driving companies to innovate and offer more accessible products to consumers.
