Turkish news agency Anadolu reported on June 22, Turkey will eliminate taxes on some Uzbek imports beginning July 1.
Customs charges on a variety of Uzbek imports are eliminated as part of the preferential trade deal negotiated between Turkey and Uzbekistan on March 29 of 2022.
For example, import tariffs on onions and shallots, peas (chickpeas), and plums are no longer in effect as of July 1.
On the basis of a presidential directive, the Turkish Ministry of Trade has produced an order on the implementation of tariff quotas for the import of specific categories of Uzbek commodities. The paper was later published in Resmi Gazete, the government's official gazette.
According to the State Statistics Committee, Turkey is Uzbekistan's fourth most important international trade partner. The volume of commerce with it at the end of the year was $3.22bn, a little decrease from 2021. Uzbekistan's exports to this nation were more than $1.5bn.
Over the last year, about 20,000 tons of fruit and vegetable goods were sent to Turkey for a total of $25.5mn, accounting for little more than 2% of total exports of this type of commodity.
