Uzbekistan has 148 thousand self-employed citizens in the sector of passenger transportation as of mid-June, informs the Ministry of Transport's press service on June 21.
The majority of private taxi drivers are now registered in Tashkent and there are already 18,816 of them. Furthermore, the districts of Samarkand, Tashkent, Bukhara, and Andijan are among the leaders in terms of the number of self-employed cab drivers.
The Tax Committee reported that 7,594 cab drivers paid social tax in order to gain seniority. The total revenue from them was nearly $190,000. In comparison, from May 15 to October 15, 2021, when independent entrepreneurs were granted the opportunity to work as cab drivers, 5,076 persons took advantage of this arrangement. The majority were in Samarkand, Surkhandarya, and Tashkent.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev issued a resolution in July 2022 authorizing the self-employed to establish taxi services. They can transport passengers in cars with up to four seats.
To do so, you must first register with the STC (State Tax Committee) as self-employed (if you haven't already), then apply for a taxi permit and pay a charge. It is around $30 in the center of public services and around $25 in the portal my.gov.uz.
More than 30,000 cab drivers have been registered in less than two months since the new method was implemented. The Samarkand area took top place in their number, with the capital having somewhat less of them.
