Turkmenistan is currently constructing a power transmission line connecting to the city of Herat in Afghanistan. The purpose of the project is to enable the export of electricity to a number of South Asian nations, including Pakistan, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reports.
The 220-kilovolt line is being built from Central Asia's largest power plant in Mary city, Turkmenistan, which recently used combined-cycle technology from the US-based General Electric.
The information says that work continues to increase the amount of electricity sent along the Serhetabat-Herat-Turgundi and Rabatkashan-Kalainau (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan) routes.
In addition, constructing a separate Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) transmission line with modern transformer substations and distribution systems is also on the agenda.
Turkmenistan's Energy Ministry told Daryo that Turkiye's Çalık Enerji would implement the transnational project, investing $1.6bn.
Turkmenistan is one of the largest electricity suppliers in the region and exports to Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
