Uzbekistan has introduced a simplified customs corridor for member countries of the Turkic Council, Sport uz reports with reference to the Ministry of Justice's press service.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the corresponding decree on June 19th. The international agreement establishing the simplified customs corridor was signed on November 11th, 2022, during the first Turkic Council summit held in Samarkand.
The simplified customs corridor aims to facilitate trade by enabling the exchange of pre-arrival information on goods and transport between the parties. This contributes to reducing the frequency and duration of customs controls.
During the first Turkic Council summit in Samarkand on November 11th, 2022, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of strengthening trade and economic ties. He highlighted that high customs tariffs hinder the growth of mutual trade among Turkic Council countries.
The president also underscored the need to enhance transportation connectivity. He urged attention to be given to improving the competitiveness of transit corridors, implementing favorable tariffs for businesses, and developing modern infrastructure. Additionally, the president called on Turkic Council countries to join the electronic permit exchange system in the transportation sector.
The Organization of Turkic States, also known as the Turkic Council, was established in 2009 to promote cooperation among Turkic-speaking countries. Turkmenistan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus became observer members in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
