A fire broke out at one of the major markets in the Herat province in western Afghanistan, engulfing nearly 200 trading stalls. The head of the province's Craftsmen Union, Abdul Vadud Faizzada, reported this on Saturday.
"The fire broke out around 03:00 local time at the Kasr-e-Gerat market in the 2nd municipal district of Herat city. The flames engulfed 200 trading stalls with various goods, primarily clothing and cosmetics, amounting to a total value of 100 million Afghanis (approximately 1.163 million USD)," Faizzada said.
Abdul Latif Insaf, the official representative for the Herat provincial police, stated that the fire, caused by electrical sparks, occurred on Friday at midnight but was successfully contained by the firefighting personnel within a few hours.
"No casualties or injuries were reported as a result of the fire, but significant damage was inflicted on the properties of local entrepreneurs," said the official spokesperson.
