The Ministry of Finance of the Taliban reported that a significant amount of kunzite and lithium ore was intercepted at the "Torkham" border crossing in Nangarhar province. The smugglers had concealed the illicit goods in truck beds, camouflaging them with coal.
During winter, the Taliban detained two Chinese citizens for smuggling lithium.
The press office of the Taliban governor in Nangarhar province reported the arrest of a cargo containing 300 tons of lithium ore, which was illegally extracted from neighboring provinces of Nuristan and Kunar intending to smuggle it across the Pakistani border. Additionally, another 700 tons of raw material were seized within Kunar itself, which also shares a border with Pakistan.
The culprits, including both Afghan nationals and foreigners (presumably Pakistani citizens), have been apprehended, and the ore has been handed over to the Ministry of Mines and Industry.
According to Dr. Bashir, the head of the Taliban's intelligence command, 2 out of the 5 arrested smugglers were Chinese nationals, while the rest were Afghan citizens. Their accomplices were traced to Jalalabad, where they were believed to have connections with the leadership of the smuggling network, reports AVA Press.
