Shavkat Mirziyoyev left for Iran on an official visit on June 18 at the invitation of President Ibrahim Raisi, the press service of the President reports.
It was announced that the head of state will hold meetings with President Ibrahim Raisi and Supreme Religious Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, in Tehran.
The upcoming high-level talks will consider the current aspects of further development of multilateral relations between the countries and practical cooperation in priority areas as well as opinions will be exchanged on issues of regional importance.
Within the framework of the visit, it is planned to sign several documents aimed at the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
The 15th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation (IGC) between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran took place in Tashkent on May 31, this year. On behalf of the Uzbek side, the event was co-chaired by Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Seyyed Mahdi Niazi, Acting Minister of Industry, Mines, and Trade of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on behalf of the Iranian side.
The good dynamics of trade and economic cooperation were noted: mutual trade turnover between the two countries has nearly doubled in the last three years. The parties emphasized their willingness to boost the volume of mutual supplies, including chemical industry products, equipment, construction materials, silk, textiles, electrical engineering, and food, emphasizing the need of strengthening cooperation in this regard.
To ensure long-term growth in trade turnover, the parties agreed to sign a Program of Practical Measures to increase annual trade turnover to $1 billion, accelerate the adoption of the Preferential Trade Agreement, and hold beneficial Made in Iran and Made in Uzbekistan exhibitions in both countries.
It was also agreed to conduct a high-profile economic event for Iranian and Tashkent business people on the sidelines of Uzbekistan's president's planned visit to Iran.
