On June 14, officers from the Kashkadarya region's Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, along with employees from the Kasbi district's Department of Internal Affairs, searched the home of a local citizen.
According to the Ministry of Ecology's press staff, the man, who lives in the Kasbi mahalla, kept grey monitor lizards at his residence. He is reported to have killed and skinned 43 monitor lizards. Another 20 lizards discovered at his residence were released into the Mubarek region of the desert, where they had previously lived.
A criminal case has been opened for violating Article 25 of the Law on Environmental Control, Articles 47, 49, 50 of the Law on Nature Protection, Articles 51, 53 of the Law on the Protection and Use of Wildlife, and Article 202 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (violation of the procedure for using the animal or plant world).
The total amount of environmental harm was $ 27,224. The documents were turned over to law enforcement, and lizard skins were confiscated as evidence.
