Uzbekistan's State Security Service has reported that a Yakkabag district resident was jailed for 6 years in prison. A man was spreading materials presenting a danger to public safety and supporting terrorism after returning from labor migration in Russia in 2022.
According to the research, between 2019 and 2022, a man working as a labor migrant in Russia became influenced by the ideals of terrorist groups and religious extremist movements over the Internet. He began to spread materials bearing fundamentalist ideologies after creating an Instagram account. He also collaborated with and supplied documents from the terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir.
Hizb ut-Tahrir is a global Islamist organization that seeks to unify Muslims under a single Islamic state. Members of Hizb ut-Tahrir are responsible for violent incidents in a number of nations. At least 13 nations, including several Muslim-majority countries, banned the organization.
Moreover, he furnished financial aid to bolster the operations of said entity. Per the report, he revisited Uzbekistan in September of 2022 and persisted with his deeds. The Yakkabag District Court for Criminal Cases convicted him of transgressions under the Criminal Code's sections 155-3, 159, and 244-1.
The Terrorism Law controls terrorist-related investigations and charges, and the State Security Service (SSS) is designated as the principal counterterrorism law enforcement organization. Terrorism is likewise criminalized in Uzbekistan, and the National Development Strategy for 2017-2021 focuses on corruption, "extremism," and terrorism.
