Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has issued a strong warning to corrupt officials, emphasizing his determination to tackle corruption in the country, Sputnik reports.
He specifically referred to a conflict surrounding the construction of stations in Tamchi village. Japarov expressed his displeasure with the quality and cost of a station, which he described as resembling a toilet booth.
After an investigation, it was revealed that the station had been funded with $9,591 from the Kumtor gold mine. The president stated that those responsible for the wrongdoing had been arrested and ordered them to repay double the amount they stole.
Japarov highlighted the stark difference in quality between the original station and the new one built at a cost of $4,007, emphasizing the need for transparency and longevity in public infrastructure. He addressed corrupt officials, blaming them for hindering the progress and development of the country over the past three decades.
The Kyrgyz president issued a stern warning, stating that moving forward, those who engage in corruption will be required to repay their ill-gotten gains five to ten times over and face severe consequences, including imprisonment. This serves as his final warning to corrupt individuals in Kyrgyzstan.
