Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed his willingness to assist Canada in extinguishing the ongoing forest fires. In a video message posted on his Telegram channel, Zelenskyy offered Ukraine's help if needed.
The announcement came during Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's visit to Kyiv on Saturday, June 10. The two leaders discussed various matters of mutual interest, including the devastating forest fires that have been ravaging parts of Canada.
Zelenskyy expressed his concern over the large-scale forest fires causing significant natural losses and posing threats to people's lives. In response, he extended Ukraine's support, stating, "If Canada requires international assistance in combating the fires, Ukraine stands ready to provide help in extinguishing them."
Canada has been grappling with widespread forest fires for several weeks now. Numerous regions across the country have been affected simultaneously, with over 400 fires recorded as of June 6. Unfortunately, more than 200 of these fires remain uncontained. The Canadian Armed Forces have been deployed to aid in firefighting efforts.
In light of the severity of the situation, the Canadian government announced a fundraising initiative to assist the victims of the wildfires. The wildfires have caused significant damage and displacement, and the government aims to provide support to those affected.
