Residents in Astana, Kazakhstan, and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, have taken to the streets and blocked roads due to their dissatisfaction with the lack of water, as reported by "Daryo" correspondent Evgeny Korotovskyh.
In Kazakhstan, citizens near the "Millennium Park" residential complex have blocked the road, highlighting that they have been without water for eight days and demanding access to water. Similarly, residents of a house owned by the BI Group have also blocked roads in response to several weeks of water shortage in the capital.
The mayor of Astana, Zhenis Kassymbek, attributed the water supply issues in the city to factors such as hot weather, the gardening season, and urban development.
In Bishkek, there is also a shortage of drinking water. As a result, it has been decided to restrict water supply in the southern micro-districts of the capital during the nighttime hours, from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM. The use of car washing services, baths, saunas, and watering at night has been prohibited.
Nurlanbek Shakiev, the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament, expressed their inability to address the situation, indicating that it is dependent on climate conditions. Another deputy, Dastan Bekeshev, had previously warned that such circumstances would lead people to take to the streets, and this has indeed happened.
On the night of June 7, residents of the Archa-Beshik residential complex in southwest Bishkek blocked the Southern Highway, expressing their dissatisfaction with the lack of drinking water for the past two days.
The capital of Kyrgyzstan is currently experiencing abnormal heat, with temperatures reaching 40°C. Bishkek residents have voiced their frustration on social media, questioning the timing of water supply interruptions and increased water tariffs, emphasizing the inconvenience caused by the lack of access to water in the evenings and its impact on daily activities.
