The Health Minister of Uzbekistan, Amrillo Inoyatov, is leading a delegation on a trip to Geneva to participate in the 76th session of the World Health Assembly, the Ministry's press service reports.
The tuberculosis service reform in Uzbekistan has resulted in saving the lives of nearly 130,000 individuals, with a 43% decrease in the disease's incidence rate and an 84% decrease in the mortality rate.
The country currently operates a modern five-stage laboratory system for tuberculosis detection. The state provides all necessary medicines for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment free of charge. The 2023 state program aims to allocate $33mn from the national budget and $26.5mn from international donors for drugs, medical equipment, specialist training, and innovative research between 2023 and 2026.
Mobile "Lung Health" brigades have been established in 13 administrative regions of Uzbekistan, ensuring free medical examinations for residents in remote areas. The integration of physiatric and pulmonology services is leading to the development of a comprehensive and advanced healthcare system for lung health.
The minister emphasized that feedback received during the event will be taken into account when formulating the final proposals for inclusion in the future Political Declaration adopted by the UN General Assembly.
In March 2022, it was announced that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) provided Uzbekistan with GeneXpert systems, worth approximately $700,000, for rapid tuberculosis diagnosis over the past six months.
