The World Crafts Council granted ancient Bukhara the status of the World City of Craftsmen, Mayor of Bukhara Jamal Nasirov noted during the interview.
Through the “Usta-shogird" (master-apprentice) tradition, family dynasties of craftsmen pass down the secrets of the profession from generation to generation forming a guild of 800 artisans and 5,000 o apprentices.
Jamal Nasirov: “An embroidery art festival which is being held as part of the international goldsmith and jewellery conference is no coincidence.
The traditional arts such as silk carpeting, pottery, gold and jewellery, embroidery, and wood carving are flourishing”.
The first International Festival of Goldsmithing and Jewelry brought together 288 artisans from all regions of the republic which will last until May 25. 110 of them are jewellers, 37 are goldsmiths, 44 are embroiderers, and 97 are representatives of other crafts.
Participants from 58 countries of the world visited the festival. During the forum, 112 foreign craftsmen will demonstrate their skills.
