As per the General Customs Administration of China, Uzbekistan supplied natural gas worth $40.47mn to China in April. Reportedly, this is the first instance this year where Chinese statistics recorded the import of Uzbek blue fuel, as no deliveries were registered for the first three months of the year.
Kazakhstan also witnessed a surge in the gas flow to China in April, with revenue for the month amounting to $119.5mn, a significant increase from the $29.9mn recorded in the 1Q.
Turkmenistan continues to lead the export of pipeline gas to the Chinese market, with earnings of $3.42bn since the beginning of the year. On the other hand, Russia stands in second place with $1.76bn.
In 2022, Uzbekistan earned $1.07bn from gas supplies to China, marginally less than Kazakhstan. However, the revenue increased by approximately one-third compared to the previous year.
Finally, as per State Statistics Committee, Uzbekistan has supplied $910.9mn of gas to China over 11 months, with a discrepancy of nearly $120mn due to Chinese payments for the transit of Turkmen gas.
In December, it was announced that Uztransgaz had decided to suspend the exports of blue fuel to ensure domestic consumers have adequate access to fuel during the winter season.
