Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has expressed Armenia's readiness to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, Sputnik Armenia reports.
However, he emphasized that Baku needs to engage in a dialogue regarding the rights and security of Armenians living in the region. Pashinyan made these remarks during a press conference, stating that the 86,600km² of Azerbaijan include Nagorno-Karabakh.
He emphasized the importance of discussing the rights and security of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh in a dialogue between Stepanakert (a city in Nagorno-Karabakh) and Baku.
Previously, Pashinyan highlighted that mutual recognition of the territorial integrity of Baku and Yerevan, along the Soviet borders, is a crucial precondition for establishing peace between the two republics.
On April 18, Azerbaijani President Ilhom Aliyev stated that the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh must choose between accepting Azerbaijani citizenship or finding another place to live. On May 5, Pashinyan expressed concerns about several inconsistencies in the negotiations with Baku, particularly regarding the mechanism for ensuring the security and rights of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians, which remains unclear.
