Kazakhstan has recently taken steps to limit the export of ammonium nitrate and amorphous fertilizers, media reports. The purpose of this decision is to strengthen the local agricultural industry and regulate the actions of traders.
Under these new regulations, only manufacturers can export these fertilizers. The government aims to prevent the uncontrolled export of subsidized fertilizers essential for local farmers.
The state currently subsidizes basic fertilizers at 50% to support the agricultural sector, but there have been instances of abuse where fertilizers are purchased at favorable prices and exported for profit.
With this new policy, local farmers will get priority access to fertilizers, while only authorized fertilizer producers can export them.
