Uzbekistan's Central Election Commission (CEC) conducted a premature conference to discuss the impending presidential elections. The CEC addressed the question of enabling political parties to take part in the election prior to the deadline at the meeting, which was attended by qualified members from several political parties.
The CEC issued consent for the People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen - the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan "Adolat," the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, and the National Revival of Uzbekistan "Democratic Party" to run in the presidential election earlier than it was initially planned, in compliance with the Election Code.
Furthermore, approved officials of political parties attending the conference were given documents allowing them the right to vote in the election, along with signing sheets based on the template that was provided.
The decisions adopted at the meeting will be publicized on the Central Election Commission's website, and details about them will be distributed in the national media.
The newly approved bill "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Documents of the Republic of Uzbekistan" on May 6 allowed a snap election of the President of Uzbekistan. According to the modifications to the Election Code, if the President requests an early presidential election, it must be held within two months, as required by the Election Code.
The election is slated for July 9, 2023, and the CEC has taken the actions required.
