A person who posed as a travel agent was apprehended by law enforcement following his duping a citizen out of a substantial sum of money on the messaging platform Telegram.
The fraudster living in Almalyk city of the Tashkent region obtained a staggering amount of nearly UZS 21mn from the victim after making assurances of a foreign travel opportunity, the MIA Cyber Security Center reports.
Fortunately, the affected party reported the matter to the Department of Internal Affairs, revealing that the perpetrator had failed to deliver his promise despite receiving UZS 20,950,000 on his plastic card.
The individual who created a group on Telegram called World-Travel is now liable for criminal charges and may face 5 to 8 years of imprisonment for the offenses committed.
